Wiltshire Holiday Cottage - Near Longleat Safari Park

This is a charming detached beamed country cottage dating back to 1780. Nestled in the tiny hamlet of Whitbourne Springs at the edge of the Longleat Estate and on the Wiltshire / Somerset border, it offers very comfortable self catering accommodation in a beautiful setting and is an ideal location to explore the many attractions of Somerset, Wiltshire and the South West. The cottage has three bedrooms, a kitchen, dining room, large living area and conservatory as well as excellent self catering facilities. The cottage is privately owned and the owners have very kindly donated some weeks to The Respite Associaion for the use of carers.

The cottage is surrounded by beautiful countryside, woodland walks, and from the house and garden there are views of the ancient, historic and mystical Cley Hill where crop circles often appear in the Autumn. Walks through the forests are recommended as well as a climb up Cley Hill which affords stunning views of the surrounding area.

Longleat House and Safari park is half a mile away. A popular walk a mile’s drive away, locally known as ‘Heaven’s Gate’ will bring you out on a ridge overlooking Longleat House and its parkland. The village of Horningsham is two miles further on with its lovely Bath Arms public house.

Stonehenge is approximately a 25 minute drive, the beautiful city of Bath, a World Heritage site famous for its Roman Baths and Bath Abbey is 35 minutes. Other attractions such as Cheddar Gorge, Wells and Salisbury Cathedrals, Bradford-on-Avon with its huge tithe barn and many more places of interest are less than an hour’s drive from the cottage.

The local town of Frome is a 10 minute drive. It has a huge monthly outdoor market & a weekly flea & bric-a-brac market as well as a bi-weekly standard market. The historic Cheap Street with the ‘leat’ running through it & the cobbled Catherine Hill with its vintage shops are both a must. Frome is also very lucky to have some lovely independent cafes and some very high quality restaurants.

Obviously this would be a completely different type of break from our caravans. The cottage is only accessible with a car, it is in a very rural setting and quiet. We fully understand that this cottage is not for everyone and we should stress that the Cottage has stairs and is not for anyone with mobility difficulties.

Unlike the caravans we will be asking for a £50, refundable, damage, and cleaning deposit. This will only be payable once you have been offered and accepted a break  - SEND NO MONEY NOW.

A message from our Patron Miss Joanna Lumley OBE, FRGS

" Of all the unsung heroes in the world, carers come top of my list. It is humbling to read of the love, time and dedication they give so constantly to others: their voices are seldom heard, as they so seldom complain. When they DO call for help we must react at once, with support and understanding and gratitude. And lovely money: what seems like peanuts to larger organisations would be a godsend to the Respite Association, as it means that we can help ease the burden (which would be intolerable in our own lives) and bring some comfort, escape and freedom to those who give their all to others every day and night, week after month after year. These are my heroes: these are the stars I admire and applaud. Knowing that every gift to Respite will bring happiness touches me hugely.  I am so proud to be Patron of this fine charity. "
